I had the great pleasure recently of chatting with Beth Warford recently. She’s the owner of Pretty Loaded Safety Network in North Dakota. Her site and her work have been an inspiration to me as I’ve started down this path of teaching young women self-defense, so I was thrilled when she agreed to spend some time talking about what she does and why.
Beth says she grew up scared and has been scared most of her life. “When I was eight my best friend lived behind us. His mother was murdered. She was a science teacher. The same guy killed 3 other people. He shot her in the head. We broke into crime scene and saw blood on carpet,” said Beth.
Fast-forward to Beth’s adult life. She had another frightening experience that left her feeling defenseless and helpless. “I was with my two daughters on a Saturday morning. A guy was stalking me at hockey game. I went out to the car to get chips, he was just shaking and coming at me. I ran back into the game. My sister was there. She said he had been staring at me the whole time. He gave me a look, his body just showed he was going to attack me. My daughters started crying. It changed my life. After this event, I started researching, trying to figure out why I was targeted? What can I do? I started researching criminals. I started researching how body language is so important and how they target certain people and all this stuff you can do to not put yourself in this situation. It’s so empowering. I’m not afraid anymore. I’m so confident now. It’s great!”
Beth now teaches self-defense to others in live classes and through a series of videos she has produced. ” I think it’s so important that women know how to fight with their body. I do think they need to fight with their body. There are so many ways they can fight, and they need to have the correct mindset.”
